YOUHORSE.AUCTION: BORN IN A CRISIS, GROWN INTO A GLOBAL PLATFORM

Jan 7, 2026 · Lynn Wossink

Some ideas emerge at exactly the right moment. Youhorse.auction is one of them.

In April 2020, in the middle of the COVID-19 crisis, international horse trading came almost to a standstill. Traveling was impossible and physical auctions disappeared overnight. For Mario Everse, one thing was clear: standing still was not an option. If buyers could not come to the horses, then the horses had to go digitally to the buyers.

That is how Youhorse.auction was born: an online auction platform where sport horses are presented professionally, transparently and accessibly. What started as a way to sell his own horses quickly grew into an international network of breeders and buyers.

A lasting concept
On Sunday evening, April 19, 2020, the very first Youhorse.auction went live, featuring around forty two- and three-year-old showjumping horses. Interest exceeded all expectations. It quickly became clear that this was not a temporary solution, but a lasting concept.

Youhorse.auction now organizes a fixed monthly auction, always on the first Tuesday of the month. Approximately twenty days prior to the auction, the video and selection day takes place at Stal Everse in Waddinxveen. There, the horses are assessed in an unfamiliar environment, with a different rider and among other things spooky fences, to gain a realistic impression of their character, willingness, and ability to handle tension.

Today, any breeder or owner wishing to sell a horse can approach Youhorse.auction. The first selection step is low-threshold: a short video sent via WhatsApp. Not only the horse itself is evaluated, but the complete picture. For us, it is important that all parties are satisfied.

We discuss with the seller what price he or she has in mind and whether this is in line with the market. Ultimately, our goal is to sell horses, not to leave them unsold. Therefore, we advise sellers—when desired—on a realistic price expectation. In practice, this proves to align well with the market in nine out of ten cases.

Selection and honesty
The strength of Youhorse.auction lies in selection and honesty. During the video and selection days, we work with an independent veterinarian who evaluates the horses clinically, honestly, and neutrally. Any findings are recorded. Horses that are not suitable for sport or resale are not admitted to the auction. In addition, all horses are fully radiographed and clinically examined in advance, ensuring that buyers do not face surprises or additional costs afterward.

Beyond health and movement, horses are also carefully assessed for character and willingness to work. A horse that refuses, cannot be ridden properly, or proves unsuitable due to its character will also be rejected. All horses are strictly selected on these criteria.

The horses are described as they are experienced during the selection process. This assessment does not replace the buyer’s own opinion, but serves as an additional, honest impression to support a well-considered decision. Sometimes this confirms a purchase, sometimes it does not and that is exactly the intention.

Youhorse.auction sells horses the way they themselves would want to buy and sell them. One principle always comes first: treat people the way you want to be treated. Long-term thinking is essential in this approach. The consistent growth of the platform confirms that this philosophy works.

That growth is reflected in the numbers:

  • 2021: 349 horses
  • 2022: 597 horses
  • 2023: 613 horses
  • 2024: 835 horses
  • 2025: 934 horses

Today, Youhorse.auction is an international marketplace where young showjumping talent, breeders, and buyers from all over the world come together. What began in a time of uncertainty has grown into a strong, transparent, and forward-looking auction concept that continues to evolve.
